MIT Graduate Housing Assignments

PLEASE NOTE: THE ALLOCATION FOR FALL HOUSING IS NOW OPEN.

Over the past few years, the Graduate Housing Office has been developing and improving the processes by which graduate housing assignments are made.

The system is designed to provide MIT's graduate students a fair and efficient use of MIT's highly coveted graduate housing supply.

In a nutshell...

• Assignments are made based on preferences, with little emphasis on a pure lottery. Details

• When you indicate your preferences on the Assignments Preference Page, you are indicating a desire to live in a particular building – and a commitment to live there, if assigned. Please Note: you will not be given the option to wait for a different assignment. Declining your assignment or failing to confirm your assignment by the deadline will incur a $250 housing cancellation fee. Details

• Please make thoughtful and purposeful preference decisions. If you are assigned to one of your choices, you will be expected to live there. To this end, each residence hall provides details of their living arrangements and communities on-line. Details

• You may change your preferences as many times as you like (or withdraw from the process altogether) without penalty up until the application deadline. Details

• Students will be notified of their assignment by web and email if possible. Details

• License agreements are confirmed on-line, and updated if and when you renew your contract. Details

• There will be a once-yearly House Transfer Process for those who would like to request a change of residence. Details
