General Policies
Anyone currently residing in on-campus Family Housing may apply for transfer to the apartment-type of their choice, provided their family meets the residency requirements for the desired apartment-type.

Transfer between apartments of the same type (i.e. Westgate 1-bedroom to Westgate 1-bedroom), for any reason, are allowed.

There is no minimum residency requirement to apply for a transfer.

If you have been assigned to Family Housing, but have not arrived yet, you may not apply until you have moved into your assigned apartment.

Applications involving a move to a larger apartment due to family size require documentation of child/children. This can be a copy of a birth certificate, passport, visa, or other government document.

Applications involving the future birth of a child require a letter from a doctor confirming the pregnancy and expected date of birth. You can apply after the 12th week of pregnancy.

It is expected that you will move if given the opportunity. If you decline an offer matching the specifications on your application, you will be moved to the end of the list within your priority classification.

You may specify certain preferences, such as location, view, etc., under the condition that you will be passed over for apartments of the same type that do not meet your specifications. For example, if you request a river-facing Corner apartment in Eastgate, and we have availability in a Corner apartment facing the opposite direction, you will not receive an offer for that apartment. It will go to the next person on the list who is willing to take it. It is rare for apartments to become available during the academic year, so be thoughtful about what features are important to you.

You may specify dates that you can or cannot transfer. Offers will be made with consideration to the dates you indicate on your application. We can only hold apartments for students for a very short time. If you cannot move in within the time-frame offered to you, the apartment will be offered to someone else and you will be moved to the end of the list within your priority classification.

Family residents who serve as officers in their building, and are in good standing, are eligible to move to the top of their classification.

All transfers are subject to the authorization and discretion of the Graduate Housing Office.

Transfer Fees
All residents who transfer will be charged a $200 fee to help offset the cost to turn over the apartment. The only transfers that do not incur this charge are listed below.

No Fee Transfers
You are moving out of an Efficiency because you have or are expecting a child.

You are moving out of a 1-bedroom apartment because you have or are expecting your second child.

You are moving out of a 2-bedroom apartment because your family in-residence decreases to 2 people.

You are swapping apartments with another family, and therefore waiving painting and cleaning. Housing Office authorization required.
