[Housing Policies & Regulations] Green Hall, an all-female residence, is located within a short walking distance of classrooms, athletic facilities and the Student Center. It is dormitory in style and houses 46 graduate women students in 30 single (one person) and 8 double (two person) rooms. Single rooms are reserved for residents with seniority. An in-house lottery is held by the house government for single room assignments. All rooms are furnished with twin long bed, desk, chair, bureau and bookcase. You must provide linens and study lamps. The Hall's layout of common kitchens and lounges encourages many small, close-knit living groups. Ayida Mthembu, the faculty in residence, provides a sense of community and many opportunities for residents to meet one another and to become better acquainted with MIT. She is invaluable as a source of advice and counsel to individuals, both personally and academically. Resident comments: has a central location, one block from the main academic buildings...is a small building, only 46 female residents...you get to know everyone...has involved, friendly housemasters and an attentive house manager and maintenance staff...has large rooms Students comprise the House Government that has charge of house activities, room assignments and relations with the Administration. Participation by new residents and suggestions are always welcome. A House Tax of $2.50 per month is charged to each resident to support House Programs. This charge is determined by the House Executive Committee and billed with your room charge through the Bursar's Office. These monthly charges for your room will appear on your student account bill. The Graduate Housing Office assigns students through the Allocation process to room types in Green Hall. They will contact you after the Allocation to fine-tune your housing preferences within the Green Hall community. Commitment to space in Green Hall is from the date of occupancy through the following August 15. Continuing students have the option of renewing annually. |
