Welcome New and Prospective Students!

This page is intended to help you, the new or prospective student, understand the options available to you in on-campus graduate housing.

MIT Houses approximately 35% of all graduate students on campus, in single and family housing. However, because of the difficulty of finding housing when re-locating to a new city, MIT gives priority to students who are new to MIT in the main Housing Allocation. Typically we are able to house 100% of the new single students who apply to the Allocation and about 80% of the new families. For these purposes we define "new" as anyone who has never been registered at MIT in the past, in any capacity.

Single housing consists of 5 buildings: Ashdown, Edgerton, Tang, The Warehouse, and Sidney-Pacific. These buildings range in size from 120 to approximately 700 beds. Family housing consists of 2 buildings: Eastgate and Westgate, each housing approximately 200 families. Licenses are approximately one year long, extending from your move in date until August 15 of the following year. New single students receive non-renewable assignments, New Families may renew their license for a second year, provided that they remain fully registered MIT students.
