The Graduate Housing Spotlight
The Graduate Housing Guide
Ever felt that Graduate Housing is a maze of strange,
arcane and capricious rules?
Do the words "Allocation Process" make you break out
into a cold sweat?
Have no idea what "change of status" will do to your
Housing assignment?
Now there is no reason to stumble through the experience
of Graduate Housing!
Everything you could possibly need to know or might want
to ask about Graduate Housing, from applying to
terminating to transferring, is now online in the
Graduate Housing Guide.
The Guide is divided into four sections, with a
navigation bar on the left that has hyperlinks to each
question and answer. There are over 50 questions for you
to peruse.
- Part One: Getting In walks you through the
process of applying. If you want to know how to apply,
what to apply to, or what to do about a medical request,
Getting In will help you understand the application.
- Part Two: Being There explains what happens when
you are assigned, what your license agreement means,
details about moving in, how to provide proof of
family and how subletting works.
- Part Three: Being Human is a compilation of the
most frequently asked questions. This section is divided
into Room and Transfer Questions
and Terminating, Billing, Change of Status and
Eligibility and Extensions and Exceptions and
also Parking, Food, Family and Assorted
Questions.
- Part Four: Getting Out deals with terminating and
canceling your housing. Any questions about leaving
early and rent responsibility will be answered
here. It's a section you should read very carefully!
- Finally, there is Something Different, which
takes a look at what would happen if Graduate Housing
became a hit musical on Broadway, featuring songs like
"You Gotta Have Love and a Previous Lease Together" and
"This Heating Duct Is Now My Home". If the Allocation is
bringing you down, this section will make you smile or
at least smirk.
We hope that the Guide will be a helpful resource for
the MIT community, so please let us know if there is
something you would like to see added.
