**Important Scam Warning**

Affordable luxury furnished apartments have been advertised on public rental web sites. When you contact the person, they inform you that they have been transferred to another country unexpectedly and are unable to show you the apartment. They promise it appears exactly as the photos depict and request you wire or mail them two months rent after completing an application. They then will mail you the keys to the new apartment. Never be tempted to rent an apartment without first viewing it. This is a scam and if you find ads on public web sites of this nature, please report it to the site directly. More information is available from the Fraud Information Center.

Off-Campus Housing

-

While many of our students enjoy the convenience of MIT-affiliated living options, others prefer to live off-campus in independently owned and managed residential buildings. The Off-Campus Housing Service helps students locate alternative housing in the greater Boston area. These pages contain rental listings, bus schedules, furniture resources, legal information and other related services.

MIT owns several apartment buildings in the area for rent to graduate students and affiliates. Although the majority of vacancies occur in rommmate situations, many one, two or more bedroom units become available each year, see: http://web.mit.edu/housing/och/mitinvestment.html

To speak with someone directly about off-campus housing in the greater Boston area, contact the Off-Campus HousingService (E19-429)

Student-Posted Off-Campus Housing

The Off-Campus Housing Office and the Graduate Student Council also provide a website for students to advertise and search vacancies and sublets directly. This website catalogs and makes available past rents and descriptions of residences as well as tracks current listings and sublets. It allows students to contact landlords directly instead of incurring large realtor fees. Finally, the information is generated by MIT students, for MIT students, rather than by brokers. The website is only accessible to MIT students and affiliates with certificates.
