MIT Investment Property Information

MIT Off Campus Housing Service offers a large and diverse list of rental property from local property owners, real estate agencies, MIT Investment Properties and roommate seekers.

MIT Investment Properties :

MIT owns investment properties in a variety of locations near the campus. Affiliates of MIT are welcome in these rental units and have first priority for any vacancies that occur. These apartments are managed as are all other off campus rentals. They are not connected to MIT Undergraduate, Graduate or Family Housing. All tenants must sign a one year lease, committing them to the rent for the duration of the lease.

MIT Investment Properties are market rate rentals. Decisions about rental rates and annual increases are not linked to rates set for on campus housing.

There is no waiting list or assignment lottery for these rental units. All vacancies are posted in the Off Campus list of rentals. People interested should contact the management office that oversees these properties. The majority of the vacancies occur in roommate situations and we will generally receive between 10 and 30 one and two bedroom units per year.

Things you should know about living in MIT Investment Properties:

  • All vacancies (roommate and fully vacant apartments) must be posted through the MIT Off Campus Housing web site
  • MIT Affiliates have first priority and will be required to complete a rental application through the management office
  • All new tenants moving into the condos at Fulkerson St and Thorndike St will be required to abide by the regulations of the condo association
  • The final decision on who moves in is up to the remaining roommates, as long as priority is given to affiliates of MIT. The remaining roommates must approve the new roommate in writing
  • All new occupants must obtain an approval from from the Off Campus Housing Service
  • Final decisions rest with the MIT Real Estate Office, Colliers Meredith & Grew (management office) and the Off Campus Housing Service to determine the final and appropriate use of each vacancy
  • All tenants must sign a one year lease that cannot be revoked or cancelled. If an affiliation ends prior to the end of the lease, you are still responsible for the rent until a new qualified replacement is located. You may also remain in the rental unit until the end of your lease
  • All people residing in any of these properties must be on the lease or they will be considered trespassers
