    Welcome to New House

We could lure you with our facilities- with spacious rooms and air- conditioning.  We could woo you with our location- with spectacular views of Boston and the Charles River.

But the reality is we’re not the only dormitory with these fabulous features.  What makes New House special is our commitment to adding value to your academic experiences through programs, fun activities, and facility improvements. It's how we come together as a community.  It's the way we take pride in our environment-making it more like home.  It's the way we implement innovative ideas like the POWER Series where residents can decompress with free massages, POWER³, a 12-hour program where our residents take classes like dance, pilates, kickboxing, and other fun courses for Physical Education credits-- right here at home, or NH101, a program designed to have our upperclassmen help first year students better navigate the fire hydrant.

And we are just far enough away from the classrooms and laboratories to make you feel as if you have truly "come home" at the end of the day.

Our residence consists of nine smaller communities, - Houses of New House.  Four of the nine houses are our "Numbered" houses. NH2, NH3, NH4, and NH5 each have their own character and vibrancy.  The remaining four houses are our Cultural Houses.  French House, German House, Spanish House, and Chocolate City provide unique opportunities for total immersion in their respective cultures. We are particularly excited about this year's launch of the Institute's first living-learning community which is our ninth house. Designed specifically for students interested in global leadership and public service, International House for Global Citizenship (iHouse) is another example of the progressive and creative way we come together as a community to enhance the academic experience. The following pages describe the nine Houses of New House; together they convey our essence.

Wes, Head of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Sandra, Principal of S Harris Interiors,-a firm specializing in senior living design, along with our Golden Retriever, Whistler, welcome  you to MIT.  We wish you the very best…. and we invite you to "come home" to New House.
