Information Relating to the Above Dates and Deadlines

December Lottery
(Only for students currently residing on campus)

If you wish to be considered in the housing change lottery for a move to a different residence hall you must file a housing change request form on-line at http://web.mit.edu/housing/undergrad/application.html by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2009.

Please note the following conditions regarding housing switches:

1.  Change requests must be for a particular hall or halls other than where you are currently residing.  Special requests cannot be guaranteed except under pre-approved circumstances.  Please contact the Undergraduate Housing Office (residence@mit.edu or x3-2811) if you think that your request requires special consideration.

2.  If you submit a change request and are granted a new building assignment, you must move to that new assignment effective Spring 2010. There will not be an opportunity to decline the reassignment.

3.  You will be notified by e-mail when your assignment is granted, and how to go about the move-in process.  Note: any of the building preferences you chose in your application will be considered, so if you wish to change or edit your preferences, please fill out an updated request form at http://web.mit.edu/housing/undergrad/application.html before the deadline.

4.  Change requests may not be granted due to limited space in residence halls.  All assignments are made in a date-applied order.

5.  If you will not be at MIT during IAP, and have submitted a housing change request, please be sure to check your e-mail or email the Undergraduate Housing Office after December 10th for the results.

Canceling Housing or Moving Off Campus

If you are moving off-campus after the Fall semester, you must submit a cancellation form to the Undergraduate Housing Office on-line at http://web.mit.edu/housing/undergrad/cancellation.html by Tuesday, December 1st, 2009.

If you won't be sure of your plans by Tuesday, December 1st, please request an extension from Robin Baughman , Assistant Director for Housing. (email: residence@mit.edu).

Please note the following conditions regarding moving off-campus:

1.  If you cancel housing for the Spring 2010 semester, you must check out of your residence hall assignment by 12 Noon on or before Friday, January 15th, 2010.

2.  Before you check-out, the House Manager must inspect your room and receive all keys that were issued to you.

3.  Students who will be moving off-campus, but do not leave by January 15, 2010, will be fined $35 per night until they check out.

4.  Students who are graduating in Fall 2009, or who will not be registered in Spring 2010, must cancel their housing assignment by Tuesday, December 1st.

5.  If you wish to extend your housing beyond January 15th in order to participate in IAP or finish up a class, please contact Robin Baughman (residence@mit.edu) no later than Tuesday, December 1st, 2009.  Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.  We regret that we cannot guarantee this extension will be granted in all cases.

9th/10th Term Housing Requests

A student's eligibility for undergraduate on-campus housing terminates at the close of his or her eighth semester registered at MIT.  Students in need of an additional term of housing must request it by filling out a 9th Term Housing Application at http://web.mit.edu/housing/undergrad/9th.html

1.  Please submit a letter (email is fine) explaining why you require an additional term, as well as any letters of support you may have (from S^3 or MIT Medical, for example).

2.  Please plan to have all supporting documents to the Undergraduate Housing Office (W59-200, residence@mit.edu, fax: 617-258-8163) by December 1st.

Final decisions will be made by the Director of Housing.  Email notifications will be sent out the second week of
December, 2009.

Students Requesting Housing from Off Campus

Students who are currently not living in Undergraduate Housing may request Spring term housing by filling out a Housing Application at http://web.mit.edu/housing/undergrad/application.html.  All requests will be satisfied in date applied order.

  1. Students on a waiting list for the Spring will be considered for spaces that are available after the December Lottery is run.
