Dennis W. Choi, MD 1978, PhD

-Executive Vice President, Neurosciences, Merck Research Laboratories

Research:
Dr. Choi's research focuses on understanding and clarifying the cellular mechanisms underlying brain and spinal cord injury in neurological disease states, and developing therapeutic strategies.

Career Highlights:
Dr. Choi graduated magna cum laude in biochemistry from Harvard College and earned a PhD in pharmacology from Harvard University, and an MD degree from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He completed his medical internship at the Peter Brent Brigham Hospital, neurology residency at the Longwood Program at Harvard Medical School and a fellowship at MGH.

Dr. Choi served as head of the Department of Neurology and as the Andrew B. and Gretchen P. Jones professor. He also served as neurologist-in-chief at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, and as the founding director of the Center for the Study of Nervous System Injury at the Washington University School of Medicine, and director of the McConnell Center for Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology.

Dr. Choi has authored more than 150 reviewed research journal articles and over 100 book chapters and reviews. He has received numerous awards and honors and is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
