Career Highlights:
Dr. Detsky holds a BS in Economics (1972), and a PhD from MIT. He received the MD from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology in 1978.

During the first 10 years of his academic career, Dr. Detsky focused primarily on research in health economics before moving into the fields of health policy and clinical epidemiology. The clinical content areas focused on medical care of surgical patients in two primary areas, cardiac risk assessment, and nutritional assessment and support. Dr. Detsky then took on a managerial role as director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto and built that division from the ground up. He then put his economics training to the test in the practical world by managing a Practice Plan, which has grown to more than 200+ internists and internal medicine subspecialists. Dr. Detsky's true pleasure is in mentoring students and junior faculty in both research and career advice.
