I was born in Madras, India. I grew up in Karachi. There, my father used to teach Economics & Accounting at University of Karachi and also was a small business owner.
My father felt that due to the political instability in Pakistan, my brother and I would not receive adequate education in Karachi. My family decided to move to the States in 1990.
In 1998, I moved to the Boston area for my undergraduate education. I tried several majors at Brandeis including: Computer Science, Economics, Physics, Biology & even Near Eastern & Judaic Studies. But amongst all these majors, Chemistry truly made sense to me at the fundamental level.
At Brandeis, I also attended a study abroad program in Cairo, Egypt. I am quite proud of myself that I managed to spend three months in Cairo for under $300.
After chemistry, my true passion is desktop publishing. I once solely designed an entire 50 page special edition for a local newspaper. I also love riding on public transportation. I have a personal goal of riding every subway system in the world. Currently, I am on number 15.
I got married about there year ago. Recently, my wife gave birth to our first child. We have named her Sakina, which in Urdu/Hindi means tranquility. |
