2006-07 was another great year for the MIT Men's Indoor Track and Field team. An undefeated season, highlighted by a tremendous team victory over rival Williams College and a third place finish in the New England Division III Championship defined the how this season was all about team effort.
Individual performances were not dominant at the national level as in year's past, but the number of personal bests were at an all-time high. Leading the way was freshman MVP Stephen Morton. Stephen set freshman records in the 200 meter dash (22.37) and the triple jump (45-10 1/2) and led the team in scoring as well as scoring 18 points in the New England Division III Championship. Jake Ruzevick had a dominating season, running a 4:15 mile and 14:49 5000 before having lower leg problems to end his season prematurely. Both the 3200 Relay team and the DMR unit won titles at the NE Division III Championship with all members returning in 2007-08.
Losing only five seniors to graduation, the Engineers ought to be significantly improved, led by Stephen Morton '10, in the sprints and horizontal jumps, Anthony Teixeira '08, in the horizontal jumps and hurdles, Omari Stephens '08, in the vault
and hurdles, Jake Ruzevick '09, in the middle distance and distance
events, James
Oleinik '09, in the throws, Greg Tao '10, in the pole vault, Liam Fedus '10, in the 400-800 and a distance group that saw seven returning runners break 16:00 in the 5000. Joining the team in 2007-08 will be
another excellent freshmen group strong in the middle distances, throws and horizontal jumps. |
