MIT: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyIAP:Independent Activities Period

About IAP: Safety and Liability

All IAP subjects and activities must comply with the Institute Policies and Guidelines for environment, health, and safety, the legal requirements, as well as the policies for the use of MIT facilities (see https://ehs.mit.edu/site/content/types-events-activities-need-safety-plan). The organizer of a DLC sponsored activity should first review the EHS guidelines and then send their safety plan to their EHS Coordinator. If necessary, the EHS Coordinator will involve the EHS Office.

Individuals, who aren’t sponsored by a DLC, should first review the EHS guidelines and then send their draft safety plan to the EHS Office (safe-project@mit.edu).

If anyone is injured during your IAP activity, you need to encourage the person to seek medical attention and then the instructor needs to notify EHS by sending an email to environment@mit.edu.  If an employee is injured during a work-related IAP, the employee’s supervisor will be asked to refer the detailed instructions to report the injury.
