Basic Machine Shop Skills and Techniques

In this class you will learn basic machine shop practice: layout, process planning, milling, drilling, turning, tool selection and grinding, measurement, and use of handtools (center punch, file, etc.). As time permits, we will also cover material properties, inspection techniques, and other pertinent issues.

Save 60-80% on the cost of comparable commercial loudspeakers by making your own. For beginners, the course will cover loudspeaker design and construction. No audio engineering background needed, it includes introduction to crossover filter design, selection of speakers, how to build enclosures, etc. Class includes 4 evening lectures with the speakers built in the Hobby Shop during regular hours, 10am-6pm, Mon.-Fri..

Learn basic woodworking skills. You will build an upholstered foot stool, starting from planing rough-sawn lumber to putting on a hand-rubbed finish. You'll learn safe operation of woodworking machines in a fully-equipped shop. Space limited; sign up immediately in the Hobby Shop.
