This second IAP boat-building course will again be building a 11 ft Shellback rowing/sailing dinghy from the designer Joel White's ('54) plans. Making oars and sailing rig are also part of the course. Participants will receive professional supervision and explanation from an experienced boat builder, learn useful woodworking techniques and appreciate the value of team work. The boat will join MIT Nautical Association's fleet. These boats are a dream to row, easy to rig, and fun to sail. Please come aboard and help us enhance the boating experience for everyone on the Charles. Participants are expected to attend a minimum of 8 sessions, including a mandatory wood shop orientation on the first day.

How to Use a Slide Rule

Wed Jan 10, 03-04:00pm

No limit but advance sign up required (see contact below)
Single session event

Back in the old days you had to know math to do arithmetic. We'll see how slide rules work, why they are useful (slide rules have always been Y2K-compliant) and great fun at parties. Some slide rules will be provided but bring your own if you have one.
