Creative Writing Workshop is geared to hone the writing skills of participants in fiction, poetry or non-fiction writing. We may also explore tradition in south asian mystic and spiritual writing. We will examine works written by the students in class and discuss them.

Come and learn to cook delicious food from the Indian Sub-Continent. Classes will include recipes and dishes from North and South India, including desserts! Some foods will

Developing a Critical History of South Asia

We will examine in this class the European conceptions of South Asian history in contradistinction to South Asian conceptions of history. We will discuss the works of William Jones, Hegel, Max Mueller, Monier-Williams, Mircea Elliade, and other Indologists and their rendering of South Asian History. We'll also explore several ancient South Asian text as Rig Veda, Mahabharta, Rajtrangini, and other texts that bring to light what has been the indigenous conception of history. We will also trace the development of South Asian history from Antiquity to present. Guest lecturers will also make presentations on South Asian history. The event is co-sponsored by SANGAM and South Asian Center.

A seminar for South Asians of the Indian subcontinent who have lived and grown up in the West. Primarily focusing on issues of women, but men are welcome to participate! We will be exploring issues of identity, behavior, and roles. Our Western background forms our personality and identity, while we try to achieve a balance with our sense of Indian identity, culture, and background. We will ask each participant to talk about her/his individual perceptions . Using various media, we'll present a variety of the most controversial topics having to do with issues for South Asian women. Guest lecturers will also come to talk to the seminar. Be ready to come speak your mind!

Hindi for beginners and travellers - This is a fun-filled class, which not only helps you know the basics of the Hindi language, but also introduces you to the culture of India. Audio Visual Aids will be used to enhance the learning experience.
You will also learn Devnagari script, as part of the class.
Attendees are asked to attend all of the classes!
