American Jiu-Jitsu Club is in its 9th year here at MIT. We learn and practice self-defense. Jiu-Jitsu, or the Gentle Art, consists of a wide variety of techniques, relying on flexible response and the use of an attacker's own energy. Jiu-Jitsu prepares a person for any situation, including stand-up and ground fighting, knife attacks, and multiple attacks. Jiu-Jitsu brings mind, body, and spirit together, and teaches one how to avoid fighting and how to interact better with people in everyday life. It is the development of a strong spirit which makes one a true martial artist.

A well kept secret by dancers since the 1940s, pilates(pronounced puh-LAH-teez)is a system of stretching, breathing, and toning similar to yoga. Created by Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920s, the technique was designed to allow dancers to exercise without aggravating an injury. Over time, pilates has evolved into an elite workout method used by athletes, physical therapists, dancers, and celebrities. The exercise regime has been coined the “hottest workout in Hollywood” because it is used by stars ranging from Madonna to Patrick Swayze to sculpt and tone their bodies. Working your body from the “inside out” building upon core abdominal and back strength - pilates delivers optimal strength, tone, flexibility and posture, without building bulk or stressing your joints.
