Art and Architecture Tour of the Boston Public Library

Come tour the Boston Public Library (BPL) in Copley Square, one of America's architectural treasures. Designed by McKim, Mead and White and completed in 1895, the magnificent Renaissance Revival building marries art with architecture. In addition to mosaics, wall paintings, and murals, you'll see features made of nearly 20 varieties of marble. View the murals by Pierre Puvis de Chauvannes, John Singer Sargent (currently being restored), and John Elliott. Also see the work of Augustus St. Gaudens, Federick MacMonnies, and Daniel Chester French, among others. Meet inside the Dartmouth St. entrance of the Boston Public Library at Copley Square.

The first session of this workshop will guide you through the process of planning a one-day community service event. Get tips and advice from two MIT Public Service Center professionals. They’ll help you figure out logistics, whom to talk to, what forms to fill out (if any), how to obtain funding for your project and, most importantly, what community need you hope to serve.
