MIT experts are often called upon by journalists to comment on various news stories. Although an exciting opportunity, the logistics involved can be very time consuming and inconvenient. MIT Video Productions provides the facilities and connectivity required to deliver you "live" or on tape to journalists around the world, from CNN or NPR, to Italian National Television. Staff will demonstrate the technology and will show examples of MIT experts "in the news."

Document and promote your research using broadcast quality video distributed to international media outlets. Learn how MIT Video Productions and the MIT News Office package interviews, background "B-roll" video as well as record hard to replicate or one time only demonstrations. Find out about different modalities for disseminating your research through videotape, fiber optic television feeds, ISDN radio feeds and the Internet. Video reports on research are also an effective way to present your work at conferences and symposia. Work with us to contextualize your research for a world-wide audience. MIT News Office staff will be onhand to answer your questions.

Did you realize you can find lots of free demo software for your PC? Get an overview of how to find free demo software on your own, and how to download, install, and use it. We'll highlight several apps such as Flash, Paint Shop Pro and MS Visio, focusing on the few critical skills needed to get started. This is a great class for someone who has never delved into downloads and installations and wants to do some exploring. Please note: W89 is on the West side of campus just beyond Simmons Hall. Either take the Tech Shuttle at Vassar and Mass Ave., and get off at Stop 6. It's also really not that far to walk, and all successful arrivals will be rewarded with hot cocoa.

Stellar 1.4 for Students

You may have a class this Spring that uses Stellar 1.4. Stellar provides web-based support for classes at MIT. It's free for any faculty member to use. Would you like to take advantage of the web-based support that they are using? In Fall 2002, about 180 MIT classes used Stellar. By Fall 2003, we expect about 500 classes will be using it. We'll go over the features of Stellar 1.4, with particular attention to how turn in homework (and get comments from faculty!), how to state your position using the online discussion in Stellar, stay up-to-date with announcements, and even how to find the online materials in Stellar. And we'll answer your questions, and tell you how to get help in the future.
