Basic Machine Shop Skills and Techniques

In this class you will learn basic machine shop practice: layout, process planning, milling, drilling, turning, tool selection and grinding, measurement, and use of handtools (center punch, file, etc.). As time permits, we will also cover material properties, inspection techniques, and other pertinent issues.

Build Your Own Loudspeakers

Save lots on the cost of comparable commercial loudspeakers by making your own. For beginners, design and construction from crossovers to enclosures are covered. Class includes 4 Tuesday classes about design, theory and building crossovers and 3 Thursday classes on how to build enclosures. About 10 hours additional time in shop will be needed to complete your speakers.

Introduction to Making Wood Furniture

Learn basic woodworking skills while you build a small table. Starting with planing rough-sawn lumber and ending with a hand-rubbed finish- the class will cover safe operation of woodworking machines in a fully-equipped shop. Space limited; sign up starting Nov.1 in the Hobby Shop.

Sharp tools are the key to successful woodworking. Joe Gifun, a skilled woodworker, will explain and demonstrate how to sharpen chisels and planes, and then will give everyone a chance to try. Bring your own chisel or plane iron if possible.
