We will take a hands-on approach to understanding what it means for a city to be sustainable. To tackle this broad topic, we will focus our efforts on understanding and exploring how the City of Cambridge operates. The results of this workshop will be presented at the 2004 Annual Meeting of the World Student Community for Sustainable Development with a theme of "Sustainable Cities." Our planned activities include: (1)Aiding in the initial steps of implementing the Cambridge Climate Protection Plan: residential energy use; (2) Investigating MBTA plans for expansion and fare hikes and implications; (3) Lectures from local politicians, academics, professionals, etc. We will take a balanced approach to understanding the theory of planning and operating a city with that of actually doing it.
