Baroque Dance Technique and Notation
Ken Pierce
Mon Jan 10, Wed Jan 12, Fri Jan 14, 09:15-11:00am, T-club lounge

No enrollment limit, no advance sign up
Participants requested to attend all sessions (non-series)

An introduction to the basic steps of early-18th-century European dance ("baroque dance"), and to Beauchamps-Feuillet notation, developed at the request of Louis XIV and used to record ballroom and theatre dances -- bourrées, gavottes, sarabandes, etc. -- by some of the most renowned choreographers of the period.

There will be three sessions, in the course of which the focus will shift from technique to repertoire, via notation. Each session will include a warmup and some work on basic steps; work with notation will be cumulative. Prior experience with dance notation is neither required nor expected; prior dance experience -- in any style of dance whatsoever -- would be helpful but isn't absolutely required.
