House Manager 101 for FSILG Undergraduates, with Hands-on Tutorial

In the main two-day course, designed for MIT FSILG undergraduates and RAs, participants will learn about basic house management methods tailored to the needs of the FSILGs. In the optional third day, participants will have the opportunity of hands-on instruction in the area of minor systems repair.

Learning outcomes specifically include, but are not limited to:
  • recognizing and understanding basic facility systems
  • understanding specific licensing components and process
  • adhering to life-safety guidelines
  • developing a emergency action plan
  • maintaining communication with alumni
  • organizing a process for ongoing facility maintenance
  • experiencing hands-on systems repairs

  • Life After MIT: A Woman's Perspective

    AMITA, the Association of MIT Alumnae, is sponsoring its annual "Life After MIT" event where students can network with MIT Alumnae. We will have informal roundtable discussions on a variety of topics such as balancing a career and family, graduate school, entrepreneurship, and consulting. Current women students, both undergraduate and graduate, will have an opportunity to connect with alumnae and gain insight from their post-MIT experiences, challenges, and successes. In the optional tutorial on the third day, participants will learn to use QuickBooks? accounting software published by Intuit Corporation.
    Learning outcomes specifically include, but are not limited to:
    \* organizing and enforce contracts with members
    \* dividing financial tasks between chapter and alumni
    \* preparing and monitor budget, reconcile a bank statement, develop balance sheets, and manage petty cash through a ledger system
    \* maintaining a good credit and insurance rating
    \* preparing for an internal or external audit
    \* and much more
