Discover the working properties of clay. This intensive course will focus on learning to center on the wheel as the basis for forming round objects such as bowls and cups. Studio use included. This one night workshop is open to all SAA students and non-class studio users. Explore decoration of all clay forms through the highly accessible carving technique of incised pattern. If you can doodle on paper, think of this as simply doodling on clay! Bring one or more leather hard, thick walled (~1cm) clay forms to decorate. Carving tools will be provided and are yours to keep. Introduction to Gum Bichromate Printing

This four day intensive workshop will introduce students to gum bichromate printing. Utilize a contact negative to produce an image that uses watercolor paint as the pigment of emulsion and permits a high degree of artistic expression. This class will cover all aspects of gum process. Bring three to five black and white prints to first class.

Printmaking

In this studio course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of woodcut and linocut relief printmaking. Relief Printmaking is a traditional method of printmaking in which wood or linoleum plates are cut away leaving a raised surface that is then printed onto paper. Students will work on their plates in and outside of class and print together in the studio. Interested students will be able to explore using routers and other power tools to manipulate the materials. Students are required to purchase tools and supplies for this course. The teapot stands as a hallmark of the potter’s skill, both technically and creatively. We’ll explore the juxtaposition of spout, lid, handle, foot, and body, combining these elements to create a teapot that functions well and has a pleasing sense of design. Water Soluble Oil Painting Workshop
