Copyright law and licensing can make the legal use of information confusing and frustrating. This session will help you untangle the web of issues surrounding the use of print and digital content by presenting the basics of copyright law and licensing. Ann Hammersla from the MIT Intellectual Property Office and Ellen Duranceau from the MIT Libraries will give presentations with ample time for questions and discussion.

Patenting Your Invention

This seminar will survey aspects of patent law useful for technologists and entrepreneurs. The focus will be on equipping students with basic information to navigate the patent system on their own, avoiding common pitfalls and, when necessary, how to work effectively with a patent attorney. The seminar will be “hands-on,” with each student performing a patent search and preparing an invention disclosure or provisional patent application for an invention of his or her choosing.
