Isshinryu Karate: Introduction to karate!
Greg Banks, David Leung
No enrollment limit, no advance sign up
Participants welcome at individual sessions (series)

Isshinryu karate is yet another martial art. We're serious about studying, but we try to have fun and not take ourselves too seriously. What can you learn in just four weeks? Come and find out. Just wear comfy workout clothes.

Curious about martial arts? Need more exercise? Come to one of our classes. No experience necessary: most of the people in our class who shoot fireballs from their hands had never studied karate before coming to our class, either. See? You'll fit right in.

Karate for people who think they'd hate karate. We don't kill cows for fun; we don't break boards with our heads. Sure, we're serious about studying karate, but we try not to be too serious. If you came on Monday, we'll pick up where we left off; otherwise, we'll start at the beginning.

If you came to Monday and Wednesday's class, you're nearly ready to start jumping between two skyscrapers. But if this is your first class, worry not: we'll start at the beginning. After all, it's not hard to learn how to do those fly-through-the-air kicks.

Karate -- what's not to like? We're serious about practicing, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. You get some exercise, you develop new coordination, you learn to cast fireballs from your hands -- if you came to last week's classes. If it's your first class, we'll start at the beginning.
Mon Jan 16, 07-09:00pm, m57-168

Greg Banks, David Leung
Everyone knows that people who study karate are smart, beautiful, witty, and devastatingly charming. Don't believe us? Come to a workout and see. Just dodge the occassional fireball people will be shooting from their fingertips. Don't worry if today's your first day; we'll start with the basics.

Now that you've woken up from finals, it's time to assess your life. What you need to do is something a bit different! Today's class will be held on the frozen Charles, where we'll use the force of our minds to withstand the cold. Well, okay, or we might be practicing indoors. Come and see what karate without attitude is like.

Why is it that martial arts are always about STRENGTH and GRACE and POWER and stuff like that? Why aren't they ever about MOUNTAINS and SHEEP and BOTTLES? Or STRAWBERRIES and VOLTAGE and FERNS? Well, it can be -- if you're playing karate Mad Libs. Come and find out how we're not your usual martial arts club.

It's halfway through IAP, and you need to do something new. Come try karate! The students who joined the first week of IAP have been training for nearly TWO WEEKS and are almost ready to take on the Masters of the Taepo-Ryu School of Incredibly Deadly Ninjas. If today is your first day, don't worry; we'll start at the beginning.
Wed Jan 25, 07-09:00pm, m57-168

Greg Banks, David Leung
We keep talking about how our advanced students can shoot fireballs from their fingertips. Today is totally different: today we'll teach you how to shoot lightning from your fingertips. Not to worry; the rest of class will be normal: yes, we'll be doing our usual levitation exercises. Hey, you only get better with practice.
Sat Jan 28, 01-03:00pm, T-Club Lounge

It's the last week of IAP, so we'll go over waterwalking and windwalking. We'll also take people's measurements so you can be correctly sized for spacesuits, as we'll be heading to the Moon on Wednesday for low-gravity combat practice. If today's your first day, no problem: we'll start at the beginning.
Mon Jan 30, 07-09:00pm, m57-168

Greg Banks, David Leung
In addition to low-gravity practice on the Moon today, we'll also show you how to shoot laser beams from your eyes. It's not that hard, although you do have to eat this funny-tasting chemical additive to get your eyes to lase at the right frequency. For the other beginners, we'll go over the basics.
Wed Feb 1, 07-09:00pm, m57-168

Greg Banks, David Leung
For a finale, we'll talk about the similarity between karate and chocolate chip cookies. We might even bring in cookies -- purely so that we can discuss the similarities. If today's your first day, we'll start at the beginning. First, take two cups of flour and a spherical frictionless cow...
