Constitutional and legal foundations of patent law. Title 35 of the US Code, explained and demystified by a scientific advisor at a NY intellectual property law firm (and VI '04 alum). What is patentable subject matter under Sec. 101? What is prior art under Sec. 103? What is the standard for written description, enablement, and best mode under Sec. 102? What is the legal standard for "obviousness" under Sec. 103? What is the standard for written description, enablement, and best mode under Sec. 112? Important and relevant case law interpreting statutes, Patent Office rules and regulations (Code of Federal Regularions, Title 37, and Manual of Patent Examining Procedure (MPEP). What is a claim and how to write one? What is required to apply for a patent and how to write an application.
