MIT Mock Trial Team is a competitive organization that seeks to learn about the judicial system through participation in intercollegiate mock trial competitions. The goals of this class are to learn the work of trial attorneys, develop critical thinking, public speaking & communication skills. Participants play roles of attorneys & witnesses and act out a criminal or civil case. Witnesses prepare characters from an affidavit with an attorney on their team and develop testimony for trial. Attorneys write opening and closing arguments and direct cross examinations of witnesses. We will prepare for and participate in 2 competitions. The first is at the end of IAP (a "practice" Invitational Tournament). The main event is the Regional Tournament and is in mid February.

Create and design an installation in Lobby 10 or develop a group project to benefit the MIT or Boston/Cambridge community for MIT's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in 2007. The first two weeks we'll discuss the ideas and goals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as themes surrounding all struggles against oppression and for equality, in order to create a design to connect people, in a figurative way, to such struggles. Students will work together and with faculty and staff in the MIT community to design the installation or collaborate on a project. The second two weeks of IAP we will break up into work groups to build the installation and/or develop and produce specific group projects.
