Fee: $80 students/$120 others (Student Art Association standard fee). One of the earliest photographic printing processes, gum printing utilizes a contact negative to produce delicate, painterly images that use watercolor paint as the pigment of their emulsions. Gum printing permits a high degree of artistic expression as each practitioner can personalize his technique to best suit his needs. This class will cover all aspects of gum process: paper preparation, negative preparation, and the printing itself. Students bring three to five black and white prints to the first class session; these images will be scanned and an ink-jet negative will be produced. These negatives will then be used to produce the gum prints in class. Questions? Please contact ramsay@mit.edu or tcmislic@mit.edu. CREDIT CARDS NOW ACCEPTED
