Fun with Gematria

Gematria (using the numerical values of the Hebrew letters to find or create
connections). Participants will learn some of the traditional ways Gematria
has been used to teach lessons and will be given the tools to find personal
connections through the Gematria of the individual's name. No knowledge of
Hebrew is necessary.

If you don't know even a letter of the Hebrew alphabet, this class is for
you. Be part of an eight hour Hebrew learning marathon. You will learn the
aleph-bet and vowel signs of Hebrew, be able to read in Hebrew, be exposed to
as many as 300 basic words of Hebrew in Jewish living, and develop a love and
appreciation for the Hebrew language. No background required. Register and pay
book fee of $15. Enrollment is limited to the first 15 to register
and pay the fee.

Spend an evening learning Middle Eastern rhythms on the dara bukka/dumbeg, an hourglass-shaped drum. We will be learning and practicing a variety of rhythms and techniques, especially as used for folk dancing. Bring your own drum if you have one. We will provide you with the basic recipe, which you can adapt to your liking using both traditional and funky ingredients (including peanut butter, garlic, lime, Tabasco and more surprises).
