Interdisciplinary Approaches to Musical Time

Opportunity for study of musical topics not covered by the regular subjects listings. Includes experimental subjects offered by permanent and visiting faculty. Students seeking an individual program of study with a particular faculty member must also obtain the approval of the section head.
Explores music through concerts, forums, and class discussion. Topics include musical architecture; how memory and reminiscence enhance musical perception; and understanding musical time through analysis and aesthetics. In addition to class hours, attend three evening concerts on 01/09, 16, and 23 by Boston Chamber Music Society preceded by three 90-minute forums on same days starting at 4pm where experts discuss the themes across disciplinary boundaries. Theater Practicum

Prereq: At least one studio subject or permission of instructor
Level: U 6 units Standard A - F Grading Can be repeated for credit   

Provides directed practice in acting or directing on a sustained theater piece, either one-act or full length, from pre-rehearsal preparation to workshop production. Consult Theater Arts Office.
"R.U.R." will be directed by visiting artist Wesley Savick. Auditions will be held on November 30, December 1 & 2 – RRA 7pm-10pm. Rehearsal times could be days and evenings depending on participant availability. Performances will be on Feb. 4, 5, and 6, and possibly the following week. Students receive up to six credits and must be available for dress rehearsals and all performances.

Provides directed practice in theater design or technical production while working on a Theater Arts production.
Students receive up to six credits for participating in the design and production of DramaShop’s IAP production "R.U.R." directed by visiting artist Wesley Savick. Designers and technicians should also be available for dress rehearsals and performances the 1st and 2nd week of February.
