How do I ask for a date? Which bread plate is mine? At what point in a job interview can I ask about salary? Should I use a cell phone while on the T or the elevator? How can I network to find the perfect position?

Join us for MIT's 16th Annual Charm School to find out these answers and more. Participate in mini-classes on a wide variety of "charming" subjects. You may even earn your "Ch.D." (Doctoral degree in Charm). Classes are rolling, so stop by at any time during the four-hour period and stay afterwards for a short reception to begin at 4:00 in Lobdell.

With special guest Ralph “Bud” Sorenson, member of the Board of Directors of Whole Foods Markets, moderated by Ken Zolot.

Today, the laissez faire concept of capitalism espoused by Milton Friedman is under siege. This workshop will focus on whether there is a way to retain capitalism as a powerful positive force for creating jobs, wealth, and innovation, while at the same time making it more responsive to the interests of all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

It will explore the concept of “Conscious Capitalism” that is based on the proposition that the primary goal of corporate leaders and entrepreneurs should be to optimize the returns to all stakeholders: customers, employees, supply chain partners, communities, the environment and, of course, shareholders.

Enrollment limited. Please sign up at the URL below

The world of inventions, patent protection and technology licensing may be a little confusing sometimes, specially when you are part of an institution that encourages the sharing of knowledge. Often, we find students asking:

  • How can I protect my invention?
  • Can I talk to someone about it?
  • I think I invented something big - now what?

If you have similar questions or are just interested in learning more about inventions, patent protection and licensing of technology, you are at the right place!

The Technology Licensing Office at MIT deals with these types of questions every day and we would like to share with you our experience in dealing with these issues and more.

Participants requested to attend all sessions (non-series)

This course explores a wide range of medieval textile and clothing production technologies, offering students hands on experience in their use. We will work with a raw fleece; card and spin the wool; use simple looms to weave a belt; dye a variety of fabrics; and design/construct a single garment - either a cloak or tunic. All materials provided - students must commit to all 4 days of class.

This course will question typical characterization of medieval textile work as unskilled, as well as consider distinctions usually made between activities labeled as crafts versus those labeled as art.
