This course aims to introduce the tsunami to the public. Session one is an introduction to terminology, followed by an historical overview of past tsunamis. Causes of various types of tsumani (earthquake, volcano, etc) will be discussed. After that, we will discuss the behavior of tsunamis after they are generated: how they propagate, how they behave as they move closer to land, and what causes so much damage to coastal constructions. We will conclude with a look at the future of tsunami research.
