Since 1997, MIT Lion Dance Club has helped spread the Chinese cultural art of lion dance to the MIT and greater Boston communities. A vibrant clash of color, sound and movement, Chinese lion dance is a tradition that dates back thousands of years and is associated with good fortune, protection, prosperity and longevity.
Come join us this IAP as we prepare for Chinese New Year celebrations! No previous dance experience is necessary. One of the most rewarding aspects of learning lion dance is mastery of stunts, from simple rolls and coordinated jumps to advanced lifts. Music, in the form of drums, cymbals and gongs, is an essential aspect of lion dance. We also welcome anyone who wishes to learn traditional Chinese percussion techniques.
