Bamboo is the one of most popular of the "four scholars of Chinese painting". It is similar to Chinese calligraphy technique. This class introduces students to holding the brush, controlling the brush, and using the Chinese calligraphy brush strokes to create the bamboo.

Introduction to Abstract Painting
This class will explore acrylic painting with a focus on abstraction. Students will experiment with acrylic paint as a material through demonstrations on color mixing, paint handling, mark making, collage, and composition. Using photographs as a starting point for the paintings, students will be asked to transform the image through invented imagery and abstraction. Students will develop a number of paintings that will help to improve their painting skills and encourage them to take risks as painters.

One of the earliest photographic printing processes, gum printing utilizes a contact negative to produce delicate, painterly images that use watercolor paint as the pigment of their emulsions. The basic process is quite simple and fun. Once learned, the process can be duplicated simply in a variety of environments without the requirement of a traditional darkroom.
