Introduction to the Japanese Language
Cathy Zhang
Tue Jan 11, 07-09:00pm, 4-159

No enrollment limit, no advance sign up
Single session event
Prereq: Interest in Japanese

This talk will give you a basic introduction to Japanese, as you might've guessed from the title. You'll learn some basic expressions, get an introduction to the writing systems, and hear about some of what I think the major conceptual differences are between Japanese and English, which should be helpful for English speakers thinking about learning Japanese (in fact, if you are interested in learning Japanese, check out my "Japanese 101" class).

Japanese 101
Cathy Zhang
Mon, Fri, Jan 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, 07-09:00pm, 1-273

No enrollment limit, no advance sign up
Participants requested to attend all sessions (non-series)
Prereq: Interest in Japanese

Interested in Japanese but overwhelmed by the multiple writing systems and the "backwards" (SOV) sentence structure? I've been teaching a small group of students this past fall term, and I'd like to bring Japanese to more people and simultaneously bring more people into our group, so we'd be hitting the highlights of a lot of MIT Japanese I (with some Japanese II mixed in). If you decide you want more after this series, you can join our Japanese class in the spring term!

I'd also encourage everyone to come to my "Introduction to Japanese" talk, which will give you an introduction to the writing system and major conceptual differences between Japanese and English.
