Shotokan Karate is a classic Japanese martial art, with a focus on completely mastering a set of straightforward and offense-oriented moves. Practicing karate is an excellent way to stay in shape over the winter, as well as improve your balance, reflexes and flexibility.
By the end of this IAP course, complete beginners will have learned enough to test for a yellow belt. We will cover all basic blocks, kicks and stances as well as several kata. As your technique progresses, we will introduce basic sparring routines and move towards free sparring.
The MIT Shotokan Karate club was founded in 1974. It is a member of the New England Collegiate Karate Conference (NECKC), led by Grandmaster Kazumi Tabata, 8th dan.
