Single session event
The traditional instrumental music of Ireland consists primarily of dance music — reels, jigs, polkas, hornpipes, slides and the like. There are literally thousands of existing tunes with new ones being added all the time, and the possibilities for variation are endless. This session is an opportunity for musicians to practice tunes in a relaxed, informal setting. The first hour will be a slow session geared towards people with little or no experience in playing Irish music, while the remainder will be uptempo for more seasoned players. Although sheet music and alternate notation will be provided, the best way to learn is to listen, since this is an oral tradition (and besides, there’s no room for music stands in pubs!).
For players of flute, violin, whistle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, accordion, concertina, pipes, harp, bodhrán, or related instruments.
