Tue Jan 4, 11, 18, 25, 04-06:00pm, W20-439
No enrollment limit, no advance sign up
Participants welcome at individual sessions (series)
Prereq: Some drawing experience preferred but not required
This workshop is for artists who enjoy (or would like to enjoy) drawing in an anime or manga style. All levels of experience welcome; beginners can come to learn the basics of anime drawing, and veterans can meet fellow artists, share tips, and in join in some art "jam sessions."
Workshop covers techniques of sketching including construction, anatomy, foreshortening, aspects of various anime styles, and using references, all with an anime and manga emphasis. The last two session will focus on inking with nib pens (G-nib and spoon-nib), the tool of choice for professional manga artists in Japan. Class elements of the workshop are taught by a published comic artist working primarily in a manga-influenced style.
If there is an interest in creating original manga or doujinshi (comics) at the first session, the workshop may be optionally expanded to another day each week to accommodate.
$5 donation (not a fee) to cover the cost of supplies (nibs, pens, ink, paper, rulers, etc) is encouraged but not required.
