MIT: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyIAP:Independent Activities Period

About: Who Participates in IAP

Non-credit activities are only open to members of the MIT community: faculty, students, staff, and MIT alumni.

Non-credit activities should be organized for the entire MIT community, not non-MIT groups or for the public at large. The number of participants in IAP activities may be limited, but the ability to participate may not be limited to members of a particular group.

All members of the MIT community can join the non-credit activities; activities are generally available in approximately fifty different categories (see the Activities by Category page for examples). Some activities require advance sign-up, but in many cases participants can simply show up at the stated time.

IAP subjects (for credit) are available to all students registered in the fall or spring terms of the academic year. Please review the IAP 2015 class schedule to see what has already been submitted by departments thus far. IAP 2015 listings will also appear on this site in November. However, please keep in mind that while departments may continue to list subjects via the IAP site, beginning in January 2015 official class schedules for IAP subjects will be published in the Online Subject Listing, just as they are for fall and spring.

Questions about participation eligibility may be directed to IAP Staff at iap-www@mit.edu.
