Intimidated by some passages in Lord of the Rings? Planning a trip to Tol Eressea? Learn simple Quenya (High-Elven) in a few easy lessons. Vocabulary, grammar, possibly even Tengwar (alphabet). Native speaker instruction if we can find one.

Borges's "El Muerto": Short Story and Film

Prereq: Spanish II or equivalent
Spend two classes practicing your Spanish (listening, speaking, reading) and discussing the famous short story, "El muerto," by Argentina's Jorge Luis Borges. The story will be discussed in terms of its historical-political context and its mythical content, as well as in light of one film director's efforts to reinterpret the printed short story through the medium of film. Conducted entirely in Spanish.

Simple Chinese Characters

Next time you go to Chinatown, the writing on the walls needn't be all "Chinese" to you. Come and learn the meaning of some simple Chinese characters. No knowledge of Chinese or facility with languages required.
