Intimidated by some passages in Lord of the Rings? Planning a trip to Tol Eressea? Learn simple Quenya (High-Elven) in a few easy lessons. Vocabulary, grammar, possibly even Tengwar (alphabet). Native speaker instruction if we can find one.

Borges's "El Muerto": Short Story and Film

Prereq: Spanish II or equivalent
Spend two classes practicing your Spanish (listening, speaking, reading) and discussing the famous short story, "El muerto," by Argentina's Jorge Luis Borges. The story will be discussed in terms of its historical-political context and its mythical content, as well as in light of one film director's efforts to reinterpret the printed short story through the medium of film. Conducted entirely in Spanish. Sign-up: Please sign up on FL&L Web page or in FL&L office (14N-305). Before Jan. 5, pick up copy of short story in 14N-305 and try to read it at least once.
