How to Blow a Shofar

A shofar / ram's horn, one of the oldest instruments, has been used by Jews since Biblical days on special occasions. Come learn how to produce different sounds on the shofar, including the notes tekiah, teruah, and shevarim, used on the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashanah.

Israeli Folk Dance for Beginners

Have fun while acquiring the basic skills of Israeli folk dancing. By the end of the course you will know your right foot from your left foot, a mayim step from a yemenite step, and the basics for learning more complicated dances. Partipants are welcome to stay after the class to participate in the regular Israeli Dance session which runs from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sponsored with MIT Folk Dance Club.

Middle Eastern Drumming Rhythms

Prereq: Open for students from all different backgrounds.
We will work with people from different religious backgrounds using a prototype multi-user graphical environment under development at the Media Lab. The goal is to explore our own religious traditions as well as others by engaging in a hands-on fun and creative experience. Users are graphically represented in the virtual city and can create characters, objects and symbols from different religious traditions, and program their behaviors. We will design the virtual world and spend some time discussing each other's worldviews.
