Celebrating Inspiring Teachers

The MIT Alumni Association is proud to support the MIT Inspirational Teacher Award. There are many creative and committed high school teachers who have made lasting impressions on MIT students and have contributed to their success as achievers. We encourage you as Club Volunteers and Educational Counselors to help us recognize these extraordinary educators.

How can you participate if a teacher from your area has been recognized as an MIT Alumni Association Inspirational Teacher? In an effort to bring local attention to the winners of this special award, we invite you to celebrate the selected teacher(s) from your area at an event in late May or mid-June, when the MIT student who nominated the teacher will most likely be home and able to attend. We recommend that Club Volunteers and ECs work together on this project.*

If a teacher is selected from your area, you will receive a letter in March which includes information on the selected teacher(s) and the student who nominated them, a sample Press Release, an Event Guideline, information about the Alumni Association Award Package for the teacher, as well as suggestions for Clubs and Educational Counselors who may wish to add to the award package.

Here are some suggestions for ways in which you can give recognition to the teacher selected from your area:

  • Invite the teacher (and the MIT student who nominated him/her) to an already scheduled club event in late May to mid-June and honor the teacher at that event.
  • Recognize the teacher at his/her high school's annual award ceremony in late May to mid-June (this will require coordination with the school administration).
  • Invite the teacher and the student to your club's Freshman Summer Send-off event in July or August. As summer is vacation time for teachers, you will want to contact the invitees early to ensure that they will be available on that date.
  • Send a press release to local news organizations. A template will be provided.
