Help Wanted

If you are interested in student affairs issues, like writing, and like what Institvte provides, we invite you to consider joining us.

New members will find their talents put to good use immediately. Take a look at the positions open below. Hours and commitment are completely up to staff members. Currently, the greatest commitment is that of the editor, who spends about 4-8 hours a week on Institvte. At the other extreme, some reporters only send in student affairs information about once a month.

Right now, we want you for:

Editor(s). Responsible for the content and assembly of Institvte.
  • Solicits information and articles needed for each issue.
  • Rewrites and edits articles as needed.
  • Checks the accuracy (both factual and grammatical) of the articles and editorials.
  • Webmaster(s). Responsible for the material on Institvte's web site.
  • Converts each week's issue into HTML format.
  • Ensures that Institvte's resource pages offer plenty of useful, up-to-date information on student affairs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all of the web-site information is displayed in a "web site of the week" manner.
  • Publicity Director(s). Responsible for publicizing Institvte.
  • Runs efforts to: publicize Institvte and increase its distribution; recruit staffers and sources; and raise money for Institvte.
  • Sources (Reporters). Responsible for sending in information on student affairs stories at MIT.
  • Anyone can be a reporter, including students, faculty, and staff. Right now, we especially need reporters to cover academic and student group issues.
  • As for what Institvte is about: The idea for the journal came from a finding on the 1995 Student Life Survey that 80% of the student body wanted regular bulletins about "what is happening with MIT policies". Each week, we try to provide this information in a clear and accurate manner, and we also try to provide analyses that will shed light on pressing student affairs issues. To do this, all articles and analyses are checked for accuracy. Articles go through "opinion filtering," as well. If you are interested in joining Institvte, send mail to institvte@mit.edu.
