Welcome to the Student Resource Service

Have a problem, but don't want to spend hours digging through old papers or fighting with MIT agencies to figure out where to go to get it resolved? We can help.

The Student Resource Service can help you find the people you need to get problems solved. We are students who are well trained in MIT's organizational structure, so we can help you find the "right" agency to visit -- and, more importantly, the "right" people to visit. If we don't know who the right party to see is, we will find out for you.

In addition, we can help advise you on how to contact the "right people." We offer advice on how to write letters and make phone calls of request; items to bring to meetings; and what to do during meetings. In certain situations, we can relay your concerns to parties troubling you directly. We generally do not relay concerns to other students, however.

We take much of our philosophy from MIT's Ombudspersons. We try to give you options to choose from (explaining the main points of each) rather than just giving you set advice. We will not do anything on your behalf without your permission. Also, all of our contacts are confidential unless a situation involves a serious crime. We do not keep formal records.

We are located throughout MIT's living groups, departments and activities. Currently, there are about twenty of us. We would like to have enough members so that students will always be able to visit members they already feel comfortable talking to (like MedLinks). To find out who is an SRS Member near you, look at our list of members. You can also ask a question from this page; your question will go to one of the Service managers.

The Student Resource Service is an independent student group not affiliated with any MIT agency or student goverment agency. It is part of the Institute Foundation, an ASA recognized activity dedicated to empowering students at MIT. The group also publishes the student affairs journal Institvte, and teaches personal development classes over during IAP.

Our next training session will be held after early in the fall term. If you are interested in getting involved with the Student Resource Service, send us a brief message and we will send you more information.

We thank you for using the Student Resource Service, and hope that you will find it helpful.
