Off-shore rip current alert system
The Williamston High School InvenTeam invented a self-sustaining alert system that detects rip currents in the Great Lakes and warns people of the danger. Present warning systems are merely predictions based only on general water and weather conditions, while our device detects the actual presence of rip currents in specific locations. Due to its potential to save lives, both public and private beaches are interested in employing our invention. This patentable device, contained in a buoy, is powered by solar energy, weighs less than 75 pounds and costs less than $400. |
