Agricultural crop spraying UAV
The Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies InvenTeam is inventing an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle that will efficiently and accurately spray crops on small-scale farms. The vehicle is an octorotor that is five feet across and has 16-inch propellers. It uses GPS and computerized visual tracking to navigate. The user will input GPS coordinates for the field crop, fill the tank with spray, and tell the vehicle to take off. It will then spray the crops, tracking the plants to ensure accurate coverage. The vehicle is intended for use with pesticide, but will be tested using a completely safe mixture of kaolin clay and water at the Rutgers Snyder Research and Extension Farm.
