How to create a simple network map.

Print out two sets of floor plans from your FCI locker.  They are located in the "other documents" section and are labeled "IRDF Educational Area Floor Plans" posted on 2005-08-10.

Take both sets of floors plans for your building, walk around the entire building while marking any of the items in the following legend on the plans.  Please try to mark the locations of the items reasonably close to where they are in each room and label the first page as "existing".  On the second set of plans please indicate the locations and number of what you would like to have in the building utilizing the same legend.  Label this second set as "proposed".  Please include any identification scheme that may exist for the individual items throughout the building.  If network diagrams or schematics already exist please provide a copy.

Legend:
Network drops - filled triangle.
Telephone jacks  - filled square.
Cable jacks  - filled circle.
Network Patch Panel - use NPP.
Fiber Node (MIT equipment) - use FN.
Cisco Switch (MIT equipment) - use SW.
Other Network equipment - use O and describe on a separate sheet
Telephone Patch Panel - use TPP.
House Telephones - use HT
Cable Distribution Panel - use CDP.
Fire Alarm Control Panel - Big Panel - use FAC
Fire Alarm Panel - Small near entry door - use FAP
Carbon Monoxide control Panel - use COP
Alarm system control panel - use ALP
Door Keypads - use KP
Door proximity readers - use PR
Door telephones - use DT


Please return the paper sheets to the FCI and we will scan and post them to your locker.
