Team Leader Role Description

Purpose:

Incumbents in this role add value to the Institute by providing planning, direction and guidance to a team that is delivering an I/T service to a customer.

Essential Functions:

Team Leaders are responsible for ensuring that customer needs are met through providing specific deliverables. Deliverables may include new system plans and solutions or the maintenance and service of installed solutions. They develop the overall plan, budget, structure, schedule and staffing requirements necessary to execute the deliverables in a high quality manner that creates customer satisfaction. Incumbents also oversee the execution of the deliverables, often coordinating the efforts of MIT employees, third party vendors and customers to provide the results agreed upon in the project proposal or contract.

Team Leaders make critical contributions to the selection and development of I/T staff because they identify staffing needs, participate in the recruiting of staff, and provide staff with day-to-day direction and feedback. Incumbents will also coach and mentor staff, thus building I/T capability in the future.

Team Leaders also make critical contributions to the identification and development of technological capability for the Institute.
